Data Science: A Necessity for Thriving in the Digital Age
Anahita Thukral, the founder of DiWo and its Lumen program, emphasized the vital role of such initiatives, stating, “In the data-driven world we live in, mastering data science is not just a career choice; it’s a necessity. This program is designed to equip individuals with the skills they need to thrive in the digital age.”
Through this program, DiWo will connect employers operating in key growth sectors, including digital technology to qualified talent to fill high-demand roles, with the target outcome being job placement. All participants part of this program will participate in a comprehensive Data Science training, professional developments support, network opportunities, receive hands-on project and financial incentives.
“Canada’s workforce is the backbone of our economy. As new, high-growth sectors emerge, we need to ensure workers can gain the necessary skills that align with the needs of modern employers,” said the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.
Applications now open
The application to the program is now open! The candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and must have a minimum have three years of work experience, accumulated through a combination of full-time, part-time, or volunteer positions, regardless of where they were gained. While the candidate does not need to be a coding expert, having a fundamental grasp of programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java, or similar is advantageous.
Dedication is key. The candidate must be willing to fully commit to the entire 16-week program. As a sign of commitment, a temporary deposit of $500 is required to secure your place, which will be returned to the candidate upon successful program completion.
This program is managed by DiWo in partnership with Riipen and M2M Tech. The Program is funded by the Palette Skills (Upskill Canada) and the Government of Canada.
