The Long Journey Towards Pay Equity: Female Athletes and Professionals Continue to Fight for Equal Pay Despite Progress.

Even today women have to fight for getting equal pay as their male subordinates even though the world is progressing and more female leaders are rising and yet women have to fight for getting equal pay.
Last week, the Women Tennis Association made the announcement that it would implement a new commercial structure in order to ensure pay equity by 2033 and improve the sport’s marketing and revenue generation.
Recently tennis Canada’s Gavin Ziv while speaking to Ctv News said, “it’s been a long, long way.” He also mentioned that, “Men and women’s TV rights are just sold differently around the world, and haven’t achieved the same dollars on the women’s side as the men have done on that. It’s a big disparity.”
This year at the Bank Public Open in Toronto, the male players will get $8.8 million in prize cash, while the female players will get $3.72 million.
It might seem a small change for some authorities but it’s a big step towards female players and athletes. But this change is also a long way to go. Even today women have to fight for their worth be it sports, corporate jobs or any jobs. And the pay gap isn’t small at all. Even actors and actresses are not paid equally even though they both might be the lead protagonist in the movie or series.
In the past years, some have improved while some still are fighting for it. A little progress but not much would be the phrase to be used for females getting equal pay. With the pay gap being an issue, another prominent factor of females quitting their jobs is due to family planning.
Most women tend to quit due to extra responsibilities they have taken up with their future. Whether it’s building a family or getting married. Most women tend to quit their jobs as it is not feasible to pay attention to both at the same time. Some women tend to take up jobs that are self employed so that they can take care of their babies and be with them. And hence, we don’t see many female entrepreneurs or high paying corporate job leaders on the rise due to all these reasons. Thus, the pay gap remains the issue till date. The pay gap hasn’t completely filled within the years even with female leaders leading the nation or country.
